Hillside Kennel's History
Located in a rural setting in the Northeastern Pennsylvania hills......Thus !!!! "HILLSIDE KENNEL"
EST . 1985
Our Kennel began in search for an addition to our family. Harold knowing my love for Dachshunds found an ad for the little furry friends. Upon visiting these doxies, we found a women who had started raising several coats and colors and was ready to abandon the idea of breeding. So we were hooked. It was LOVE at first sight. We quickly made accommodations in our basement for 8 beautiful Pups. It wasn't long before we had our first litter and we were on our way to be devoted to these "little big dogs" forever.
For the next year, we picked eveyone's brain , read every book we could get our hands on and studied all pedigrees. Our local Veterinarian helped us enormously. We soon moved the group to an outside building with a large grassy yard for them to run. With in the next few years , our business grew and we built building number two. We took all our experiences by trial and error, kept the cream of our production , purchased new lines to develope a quality and clean line, and still now 20 years later , continue to produce Dachshund puppies of excellent temperament and fine show quality... We did however start with a very good line.
All of our bitches are taken into our home to whelp their litter and are kept there until the pups are weaned at 6 weeks of age. The pups are then vaccinated and wormed and remain in the house and socialized until they are ready to go to new homes at 9 weeks of age. Before they are released they do get boostered with a second vaccine and also two more wormings.
Harold takes care of the feeding and maintenence. He devotes his days to caring, loving and playing with our kids. We also care for all of our retired dogs, have adopted some of them to great family homes , and have laid a lot to rest. We have set aside a piece of land for our cemetery up on our hill. A little piece of us goes with each and everyone that we lay to rest. We miss them all!!
And I, Kathy work full time as a Vet Tech in a local Animal Hospital, and now manage our satellite clinic. I love my job and have a wonderful boss, who is also a Great Veterinarin. My job just enhances our kennel needs. I provide all the medical care for our kids. All our whelpings are by my side. And Yes, they travel to work with me, as not one of our whelpings are unattended. Every litter is just as new and exciting as the first, but with much more experience. As a matter of fact , all our breeding questions are turned over to me at the clinic. Also working there I have mastered the technique of artificial insemination.
We both Love what we do. Our dogs are like our kids. They know all their names and love to see visitors. We have large kennel , because we raise all three coats and most colors. We do not interbred, but do most outcrossing , and some distant line breeding, and keeping the temperament great and conformation correct to the dachshund standards. All come with a Full AKC registration , and a 4 generation pedigree, and are HEALTH GUARANTEED.
We are governed state regulation, and are inspected twice yearly. We are also a registered kennel with AKC , and are inspected yearly. We would love to have you visit if you are in the area. Pictures are always readily available to every client.
WE ARE DEVOTED TO KEEPING THE DACHSHUND STANDARDS TRUE !!
Thanks To ALL !!
